New e-filing portal
On June 07, 2021, the Income Tax Department launched its revamped e-filing portal. This ITR e-filing portal is more mobile-friendly, displays a pre-filled ITR form, and has simplified utility features. The new e-filing mobile app will make ITR filing more convenient for taxpayers.
Salient Features of the New ITR E-Filing Portal
The new ITR e-filing portal has an integrated system to process income tax returns quickly and issue immediate refunds.
A free software application is available for all taxpayers with interactive questions to help taxpayers with their seamless tax submission experience.
In the beginning, the taxpayers will get the software for ITR forms 1 & 4 online as well as offline and ITR 2 form offline. Facility for the preparation of ITR forms 3, 5, 6, 7 will be made available later.
The new e-filing portal comes with a single dashboard for various interactions and uploads. Also, the taxpayers will be able to follow up on their pending requests easily through the new portal.
The new e-filing portal will have multiple options for on-portal tax payments, multiple logins and detailed FAQs, user manuals, videos, and chatbots are available to assist the users in every step to avoid confusion.
The e-filing portal can be used by the taxpayers to file their income tax returns (ITRs) and also to raise complaints seeking refunds.
The taxpayer may use it to issue queries, notices, get responses from the taxpayer, and communicate final orders like assessments, appeals, among others, on the taxpayers’ dashboard.
To help taxpayers with limited access to mobile networks who find it difficult to generate OTPs or electronic verification codes, a new feature called ‘static password’ has been introduced. This will help tax payers complete the double layer authentication process as required by the new tax portal.
On logging into the new income tax portal, https://www.incometaxindia.gov.in, under the ‘My Profile’menu, we will find the ‘Static Password’ option. An option of 10 static passwords will be provided which will be valid for a period of 30 days only. Out of these, anyone can be used to login, but the same password cannot be used for the succeeding login.
Taxpayers would be able to update their profile with information such as salary, house property, profession, etc. which will be helpful in pre-filling their income tax returns. The mobile application for e-filing will be available from 18th June 2021.
