The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in June 2020 had issued a notification extending the deadline for PAN–AADHAAR Linking. The due date for linking the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card with the Aadhaar card was March 31, 2021. It has now been extended to June 30, 2021.
If not done by then, the PAN card will become inoperative effective July 01, 2021, and the taxpayer will not be able to use his / her PAN to proceed with financial transactions wherever declaration of PAN is mandatory.
For PAN–AADHAAR Linking, registration has to be completed on the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal. After logging in successfully, you will either see a pop-up window prompting linking of PAN card with Aadhaar card. Else, the Profile setting can be accessed to select the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button. Enter the name, DoB, and gender details as required, verify them against the information available on the Aadhaar card. If the details are matching, enter the Aadhaar card number, and opt to click the ‘Link Now’ button. A message will be delivered confirming the successful linkage of the Aadhaar card with your PAN card.
